When did Anguilla issue the new license plates. Will they be replaced every few years like the other islands?

2006. They were replaced when our vehicle registrations came up for renewal, which takes a year because number plates ending in "1" are due in January, "2" in February, etc., "G" (gummint) in November and in December I don't know what they do all day.

We had to pay for them and a lot of people whined about that so I don't think they'll be replaced til they turn to dust.

Unlike in America, number plates are issued to people, not vehicles, so when you sell your car you have a choice of selling the plates or keeping them if you have a number you like.

This has created a market for "good" numbers. A low number can be sold for several hundred dollars.

More than you ever wanted to know about number plates.

Islander,
Just wondering... does the "G", "R", etc. letter designations on the license plates mean anything in particular? Like "R" for "rental" or whatever?
Thanks.

Yes, the "R" was used to designate a rental vehicle.

"T" for taxi, "P" for permanent, "G" for government, "C" for commercial, etc., etc.
